For your consideration, I am offering a rare, original set of Hessian Soldiers Figural Cast Iron Andirons and Firedogs...
Iron andirons clearly marked "Virginia Metalcrafters" Waynesboro, Virginia and are sand casted (Dogs are marked also and numbered 20 2 & 3).. The sand casting process involves creating a cavity in damp sand, then filling that cavity with molten metal.. Because each sand mold must be destroyed in order to remove the casting, each casting is unique...
Dove tailed joints attach the andirons to the firedogs..
Light signs of previous use should be expected consistent with age, no repairs or refinishing..
Measurements:
Soldier Figural: 17- 1/2 inches height by 2.25 inches width by 9-1/2 inches length...
Fire Dog: 15.75 inches length by .75 inch width by 5 inches height...
These pieces are absolutely lovely and will make a strong statement on any fireplace they are used in front of.
